What do these celebrated couples have in common? Whether we approve of them or not, whether they remain together or not--destiny called them to be soul mates--great lovers. And we'll discuss this type of great love right now.

What is love? I coined the phrase, “Love is a passion that issues forth from the heart and exhilarates to all parts of the anatomy.”

Naturally, there’s much more to love than passion, and much more than flowers, candy or jewelry. It’s a feeling of trust...security...peace. It’s a powerful emotion.

It’s been said that love is a 50/50 proposition. But I say -- what is each partner doing with the other 50 percent? Love should be 100/100 -- each partner giving their all, a complete commitment of mind, body and soul.

My clients often ask me about finding a special kind of love -- a soul mate. Soul mates have the ultimate form of a love relationship. They can communicate without words, so close is their bond. Soul mates have known each other in a past life, perhaps in more than one past life. They may have been lovers in the past and want to repeat that relationship once again. Or perhaps they weren’t able to be close before (one or the other of them may have been married to someone else in a past life). So they’ve come together again to fulfill their ultimate goal of sharing a lifetime together.

How to find a soul mate? In some ways, Sweet Spirits, soul mates are just meant to find one another and they will. But we can help the process by being open and active. A soul mate won’t necessarily come knocking on your door! If you enjoy art, or sports, or animals, indulge that passion and you might well find your soul mate -- a like-minded person who shares your interest. Take a class, attend a lecture, go for a nature walk. And be alert to the people you meet.

Until you find your love, accept the fact that you might be without a partner for a reason. Maybe this is your time to get to know yourself better. Pursue a hobby you’ve been meaning to pursue...learn to love yourself.
